Genius Project
In the past week my project has COMPLETELY changed. When I was first coming back from school I had lost the passion for the earlier project and knew that I wanted a change. However, I did not know what to do, but It all started when I was trying to refill my water bottle at school and I realized how difficult it was to actually fill up. I then thought back to an experience I had at the San Diego Airport when I found one of these fountains and thought of how good of an idea it was. So, my new idea is to bring those same water bottle fillers to our Sage Creek High School.
Currently I have a meeting scheduled with our school principle, Mr. Morales to introduce my idea. I am a little bit anxious to see what he says about my idea. I think that he will like the idea, but not like the cost. While they are not particularly expensive, it is not a necessity and it does cost extra money which is scarce to find in any school district. As of now, I have done quite a bit of research on a couple different bottle fillers and made some simple profiles of simple things about them. One interesting thing was that one website had a calculator showing how many pounds of plastic would be saved with a water bottle filler. It was a little of 3,250 pounds of plastic. If completed, this project would not be just a major convience for all students, it would help save our environment by cutting out some plastic that would otherwise take over 4 centuries to decompose. As I prepare more for our meeting, I am more and more excited to see what it will take to add this to my our High School.

Wow, Davis! This is a phenomenal idea and one that I think would really benefit a lot of students at our school, especially student athletes. Have you tried to contact the district to see if they can help you get these water bottle fillers at a lower price? Usually they can contact the company, tell them their budget and negotiate a deal. Also, perhaps you should talk to a few local companies to see if you can get a sponsorship instead of having the district pay for it. I was able to get a sponsorship from Thermo Fisher Scientific and it was a fairly easy process. I hope this helps! This is an awesome idea though and I am excited to hear about how your meeting with Mr. Morales goes!
